Upon completion of the curriculum, the beginning practitioner will be able to:
- Apply knowledge from the natural and behavioral sciences and the humanities when implementing the nursing process to promote adaptation through the utilization of culturally competent therapeutic nursing interventions for individuals and families in the primary, secondary and tertiary levels of care.
- Assume responsibility for continued learning and professional development.
- Demonstrate effective therapeutic communication skills with individuals, families, and members of the health care team to strive for optimal wellness and adaptation.
- Implement teaching - learning principles in the care of individuals and families in structured settings.
- Value the rights of individuals and families according to ethical, legal and professional standards of nursing practice.
- Demonstrate beginning leadership and management skills in meeting health needs and nursing goals in structured settings.
- Apply selected nursing and related theories and research in developing critical thinking skills to make decisions regarding nursing care in structured settings.
- Apply established data base including current research in the development of an evidence-based approach to nursing practice for individuals and families.
- Participate in the change process in health care systems through promotion of quality improvement.
